First White Men

 

Vikings from Greenland ( A.D. 1000) :- Led by Leif Ericson, they were probably the first white people to reach the mainland of the continent - explored part of the North American mainland.

 

Columbus :- An Italian Explorer reached land on October 12, 1492. But Columbus thought he had arrived at islands off the coast of Asia. Actually, he landed on San Salvador, one of the islands just east of the North American mainland.  He did not realize that he had reached a New World until his voyage to the mainland in 1498.
